Stone Valley Golf & Resort
About
Unique 27-hole course with unforgettable views
Set on an awe-inspiring 200-hectare site of rivers, valleys and massive, vegetated mountains, around 65km from Hanoi, Stone Valley Golf Resort is a breathtaking 27-hole golf complex designed by Brian Curley of Schmidt-Curley Design. Ample bunkering, numerous lakes and often severe elevation changes combine with undulating greens and some of the most stunning views in world golf to create a truly unforgettable experience, which culminates in a run of holes overlooking iconic Ha Long Bay.
The well-bunkered Bermuda fairways frequently have kick areas that propel balls forward towards the greens, so despite the course's length many holes play shorter than their yardage would suggest. While the TifEagle greens are full of dramatic slopes and ridges, the contours generally work in your favour, funneling the ball towards the hole.
The first nine holes feature a networks of streams that trickle through rocks and boulders en route to vast lakes, with the rocky areas a factor on holes six, seven, and eight. At the 7th, you face a vast field of rocks off the tee, but if you can clear them you might reach the green at this par 4 in one, thanks to a downhill fairway that funnels the ball towards the green.
The second nine is even better, with number of dramatic holes, including the short par-four 14th, where you need to carry two significant ridges to reach the landing area and green. The final four holes of the original 18 play from the highest elevations, offering stunning views across the valleys and mountains.
The par-3 15th features some particularly dramatic green contouring, but again the slopes are friendly and most balls finding the green will give a good account of themselves upon landing. The 16th plays from a very elevated tee towards a fairway that doglegs right to a fall-away green, while the final two holes play around the site of the original quarry, offering some of the best views of the course.
The newest nine holes at Stone Valley play within a landscape that includes towering rock formations that rise vertically above the valley floor. Compared to the other, more open nines that are set within the a wide valley, the third nine is tighter, with many holes effectively single-track corridors through the dense jungle and stunning rock formations. You'll definitely be reaching for your camera.
The facilities at Stone Valley Golf & Resort are first-class, its large clubhouse home to luxury locker rooms and more great views overlooking the front nine. While the restaurant could benefit from a more extensive menu, but there's more than enough cold beer to go with the Vietnamese delicacies on offer.
With its unique golf course and views worth the price of admission on their own, a trip to Stone Valley Golf & Resort should be part of the itinerary of every golf holiday in Hanoi.
