BRG Kings Island Golf Resort (Mountainview Course)
About
Excellent parkland course that routes through rolling jungle terrain
One of three excellent courses at the highly regarded BRG King's Island Golf Resort, the Mountainview Course plays through the hardwood forests and rolling jungle terrain at the centre of King's Island, the mature trees lining the generally well-bunkered fairways demanding accuracy from the tee. There's plenty of water to contend with too, especially in the more open middle part of the round, while the subtle breaks in the Bermuda Novotek greens mean getting down in two putts is never guaranteed.
After an opening trio of holes characterised by narrow tree-lined fairways and bunkers either side, the 4th offers some light relief in the form of a short par-3 that plays over a pair of lakes to a green guarded by a trio of bunkers.
The 5th is a memorable par-4 with a wishbone fairway that offers two routes to the green, separated by a trio of bunkers. The right side is harder to find but offers the easier approach, taking a pair of bunkers to the left of the putting surface out of play.
The rest of the front nine is more open and water-heavy, with the 6th a right angle dogleg around water that also cuts across the fairway at the halfway point, the short 8th featuring water from tee to green, and water all the way down the left at the par-4 9th.
There are great views of the mountains on offer from the tee box as you start the back nine with a short dog-leg par 4 requiring a fade off the tee. Two more dog-legs follow, with a deliberate slice off the tee can bringing dividends at the 12th, while the 13th is a difficult par 3 with a carry over water all the way to a green guarded by bunkers on both sides.
After another right-angled dogleg where tall trees should prevent any corner cutting, the 17th is a bunker heavy short par-4 where you've either got to go long and carry the trio of bunkers that sit right on the direct line to the flag, or hit a canny fade to find the small gap to the right of the other bunker on the left. After that, there's just one more water carry, on approach into the 18th before holing out on the small final green.
The clubhouse at BRG King's Island Golf Resort features everything you would expect from a golf resort of this calibre, including an excellent restaurant and a bar. In addition to golf, there's the opportunity to go sailing and fishing on Dong Mo Lake or swim in the club’s Olympic-sized swimming pool.
Reviews
Great experience and very beautiful. A fun added touch with a 5-minute speedboat ride to the island, was spectacular.
Course was in super condition, with the exception of the greens which were extremely slow. That was the only disappointment.Course Info
