About
Scenic lakeside course that plays tougher than its short length suggests
The first of the three excellent course at BRG King's Island Golf Resort to open for play, the Robert McFarland-designed Lakeside Course plays across two islands and a peninsula surrounded by a huge reservoir, with the stunning Ba Vi mountains in the distance. Appropriately accessible only by boat, it's a shortish course at just 6,511 yards, but its gently undulating fairways, small Bermuda greens, and numerous water carries ensure there's plenty to test golfers of all abilities.
Accurate carries over water or swampy terrain are the order of the day, starting with the 3rd, an attractive short par-3 with a green guarded by sand on three sides. The 5th is a par-4 dogleg that plays around water, where the challenge is to cut off as much distance as possible off the tee and avoid the twin bunkers protecting what would otherwise be the optimal route.
Tall trees prevent any corner-cutting at the long 7th, a right-angled dogleg par 5, while the 9th features a truly massive waste bunker that runs up the right side of the narrowing fairway, itself bisected by a waterway just short of the green.
The par-5 13th features a memorable tee shot over a gorge, while two massive bunkers either side of the 14th green ensure anything not straight off the tee will have you reaching for your sand wedge.
The 15th is a severe dogleg that arcs around water, a long bunker wrapping around the back of the green designed to catch anyone overclubbing on what is a nervy approach over the drink, while there's water from tee to green at the short par-3 that follows, with sand this time short of the green.
A lake in the middle of the fairway at the par-5 dogleg left 17th means you can't really cut the corner unless you have a very long drive that can sneak through the small gap between the lake and the long bunker on the left of the fairway, while there's one final water carry to contend with on approach at the otherwise straightforward 18th.
The clubhouse at BRG Kings Island Golf Resort features everything you would expect from a golf resort of this calibre, including an excellent restaurant and a bar. In addition to golf, there's the opportunity to go sailing and fishing on Dong Mo Lake or swim in the club’s Olympic-sized swimming pool.
Reviews
"Excellent course in good condition not too far from the city"
A really great course not too far from the city although when you get there you feel as though you are in the middle of nowhere. It’s a very pretty courses set on an island and it’s a five-minute speed boat ride to get to the clubhouse. We found the courses in great condition and very playable. If you are looking for a courses not far from the city, then this is an excellent choice.Course Info
